Holdrege Schools Foundation Awards Grants to Teachers

The Holdrege Schools Foundation awarded $5,406.88 to teachers for classroom projects in the spring grant cycle. The Grant Selection committee approved awards to the following applicants:
- Award $650 – Jeff Moore – What’s In the Soil? The high school Plant Systems and Resources classes will purchase a Complete Soil Test Kit. This kit will allow students to perform basic soils nutrient and analysis tests on soil samples and present a real-world application of soil properties and nutrients. The Soil Test Kit can be used by students to learn how to make correct soil nutrient analysis and make recommendations in a variety of applications from production agricultural needs to turf and landscaping assessments.
- Award $2,306.88 - Mike Williams – Industrial Technology Safety Improvement The High School Industrial Arts department will use this grant, along with additional funds from the Phelps County Community Foundation, to purchase safe equipment for students to use in the Cabinetmaking and Construction Technology areas. A SawStop table saw with the ability to protect students from possible injury will be purchased along with a 10” Craftsman Professional Laser Trac radial arm saw with safety features. The SawStop table saw will replace a table saw purchased in 1962 and the Craftsman Professional Laser Trac radial arm saw will replace a 33 year old saw.
- Award $1,050 - Dan Wiese – Middle School Band Instrument Rescue This award will be used to repair instruments the school owns which are loaned to students for a nominal fee and are badly in need of repair. Repairing these instruments will allow students to participate in band who might otherwise not be able to participate.
- Award $1,400 - Middle School Math Team – Mathematics Classroom Technology The Middle School Math team will use these grants funds toward the purchase of ELMO visual presenters for each Middle School grade level team and toward scientific graphing calculators for the Algebra class. The Middle School Math team has also applied to the Phelps County Community Foundation for additional funding.
The Holdrege Schools Foundation Fund serves the faculty and students of Holdrege Public Schools District #69-0044 of Phelps County, Nebraska. The size and number of grant awards are directly related to the amount of money available each year for distribution, as set forth in the Holdrege Schools Foundation Fund Spending Policy. Funding guidelines allow grants to be awarded for classroom projects, innovational instructional opportunities, enhancement of school related activities and learning experience and activities.
